Khanim Rahim Leads ‘It’s Time for Iraqi Women’ Initiative in Meeting with UN Representative in Iraq
As part of the outreach and introductory visits of the “It’s Time for Iraqi Women” initiative, led by Ms. Khanim Rahim, Director of Asuda Organization, a meeting was held with Dr. Mohamed El Hassan, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of the UNAMI mission.
After introducing the initiative’s members and the women leaders of civil society organizations, the following key issues were brought to the discussion table:
-
Women with disabilities – ensuring greater attention and inclusion.
-
Women’s role in political blocs, movements, and parties during the upcoming phase and elections, with an emphasis on the quality of participation rather than just numbers, and on strengthening women’s role in political, social, and economic spheres.
-
Women’s impact on environmental changes, especially rural women in the south, and the challenges they face as a result of displacement.
-
The importance of re-establishing the Ministry of Women or activating the current council to unify efforts in serving Iraqi women.
(The “It’s Time for Iraqi Women” initiative is a women-led movement dedicated to amplifying women’s voices, empowering them across political, social, and economic fields, and advocating for their effective participation in political decision-making.)
