Justice in Every Language: Promoting Financial Rights for Women with Hearing Loss

As part of the global 16 Days of Activism to prevent violence against women and girls, Asuda Organization, in collaboration with the High Council for Women and Development, organized a specialized awareness session for women and girls with hearing loss. The session, conducted in sign language, focused on “Financial Rights of Women After Divorce” under the Iraqi Personal Status Law.

This initiative aimed to ensure that women and girls with hearing impairments, who are often overlooked in mainstream awareness campaigns have equal access to legal knowledge and protection mechanisms. The session covered key topics such as the right to alimony (nafaqa), the legal procedures for claiming deferred dowry (mu’akhar), child support entitlements, housing rights, and judicial pathways for enforcing such claims.

Delivered by Asuda’s Lawyer with the assistance of a sign language interpreter, the session created an inclusive and empowering space for participants to ask questions and share their experiences. Asuda also distributed simplified legal brochures in visual formats to ensure lasting access to information beyond the session.
